The chart above shows US sales for all Volvos’. The numbers aren’t great but show that the XC60 and XC90 are the most popular models here. Whats weird though is that sales dropped in the US but rose everywhere else in the world:

Of course they do well in Sweden. Do you guys think that Volvo will stay in its weird Saab like spot sales wise here in the US? I never really saw them selling thousands of cars a year, even with impressive models like the S90.

Alright Americans, we’ll put more bacon and #WokePepsi in Volvos.

Hell you can get a lot of some Audi’s and BMW’s for the money that the top trim XC90's and S90's command.

Kinda hard to judge the overall trend based on this when a lot of the models with declining sales are the older S60 and the stuff based on it. The XC90 drop might be because it was very popular at launch and now is settling into its normal pattern.

That could be it. Or it could just be no one is buying them. They do have a lot of older models though. The S60 is kind of their bread and butter mainstream. I found it weird that they released a large luxury sedan before a redesign of the S60.

I am ok with letting a Volvo die with dignity.

Use that hat argument on any luxury manufacturer. Why pay more for a nicer car?

This is kind of a transition period for Volvo. I think when all the models get replaced, sales will pick up again. Volvo makes great cars. I love mine.

Volvo makes great cars, its just just getting people to notice they make great cars. Just look at Cadillac.

I suppose that’s true. Volvo has never really struck me as luxury though.

Kinja'd!!!

It never went above and beyond to peak any curiosity. It was just a car for me always.

In the early 2000s, I thought Volvo’s (and Acura’s) biggest problems were “pretending” to be luxurious — including their prices — without actually delivering. However, the past few years, both seem much more competitive.

I can see acura as being slighly luxurious... little fancier than honda... Volvo however is just volvo. compared to volvo trucks and dozers, yeah, I guess you could think of it as luxury.. but in the car world it just is.
